Noise and random behaviour from PZT respiration belts

Postby banjoo » Thu Oct 19, 2017 1:00 pm

I am trying to record respiration using this PZT belt, and a BITalino plugged kit.

However, the signal quality is highly unpredictable.

Sometimes, it is as clean as this:

Sometimes a little noisy:

And sometimes unusable (those peaks do not seem to be breaths even):

The unusable one is the most common.
All these signals are acquired in the same environment and using the same procedure. Are there any known interference sources for these belts?

Any tips?

Hi,

This is quite unusual; the PZT sensor has mechanical operating principle, and hence the main known interferences are motion artifacts.

When you get a normal behaviour, is this correlated with fiddling around with the sensor wiring or something?

On the subject you mentioned belts... is this behaviour happening in a single sensor or with multiple sensors?

Also, and just to confirm, does this happen when using the PZT sensor alone or when used together with others?

If you want, one option is for you to send the parts to us for inspection and repair. There might be other options also.

Best regards,

No, I have not done anything to the sensor wiring, just normal usage.

I have tried 6 belts in total. It happens both when only using one sensor (the belt) with the BITalino at a time, and when using multiple sensors.

Would you be available to send us one belt and your main board for inspection?
