The BITalino MCU can be controlled sending bytes directly, and encodes the raw data acquired from the ADC into an arrangement of bytes.
You can find the complete specification of the communication protocol and data frames on the MCU data sheet available at:http://bitalino.com/datasheets/MCU_Block_Datasheet.pdf
We also have the firmware currently used by the device (which can also be useful for your assessment) available online at:https://github.com/BITalinoWorld/firmware-bitalino
As such, you can most certainly bypass the APIs and high-level software applications, and communicate directly with the BITalino device.
Hope this information has been useful to help you achieve your goals. In case you have any further questions we'll be on this end to support.
