Include more meta information in data file

What features should we add in future versions of BITalino?

Include more meta information in data file

Postby Fabian_LaBP » Tue Aug 25, 2015 2:14 pm

It would be great if more meta info was included in the txt files created by OpenSignals. Information like sampling frequency or units would be very usefull during further analysis of the recorded data.

Hi Fabian,

Thanks for the suggestion... we're always excited to hear about potential improvements.

Nevertheless we'd ask you to confirm whether you're using the latest version of OpenSignals available here:
http://www.bitalino.com/index.php/software

If you open for example the TXT file on a standard text reader (e.g. Notepad), you'll see header lines (starting by #) with a fair amount of information in a human-readable format.

We have included sampling rate, resolution of each column, channel number, the channel labels (as defined in OpenSignals), units (if selected on OpenSignals), etc.

Double check it and let us know what you think ;)

Best regards,
The BITalino Team

I am using the Linux version of OpenSignals which I've downloaded from your website. The generated txt-files only include MAC-address, date and the names of recorded signals

Kind regards

Got it... we'll try to make a push for a Linux release of OpenSignals (r)evolution (2015 edition) over the coming weeks. You'll see that the header is much more complete.

What might also be very useful is an export of recorded data not only to a txt file but also to hdf5 format. That would make it much easier to read for other applications (MATLAB in my case). But this is probably also included in the new OpenSignals version?

OpenSignals (r)evolution (2015) does indeed store the data & metadata both in TXT and HDF5.
